Where is Your Edge?
So, who goes on an Ecuadorian Volcano death march? Me. I do that. Due almost entirely to the fact that I hadn’t read any of the small print. Or the large print. I signed up for this "adventure"—and yes, I’m using air quotes around adventure.
I sent the sign-up web page to my wife. She asked me if I’d read the testimonial that said, “this is the hardest thing I’ve ever done” … Olympic Athlete.
No, no I hadn’t read that.
But I survived the whole thing.
One reason was because of various mantras I repeated to myself, the gist being “this is hard, but everything’s OK, so keep going.”
The other reason was there were some really good people with me, also climbing up Cotopaxi.
Not mountaineers, but people who were curious about where their edge was, and were up for an adventure.
Who would you pick to have an adventure with?

In our conversation we discuss:
Competitiveness as a Driving Force
The desire to succeed is a consistent motivator. Whether in sports, business, or creative pursuits, competitiveness drives personal growth and achievement, even when it requires reframing losses as learning experiences.
Shifting Ambitions
While financial success might initially be the primary goal, fulfillment can evolve towards creative expression and helping others. Over time, purpose expands beyond monetary gain, offering deeper personal satisfaction.
Letting Go of the Need to Grow at All Costs
The constant pursuit of business growth isn't always necessary. Recognizing that joy can come from work itself, rather than relentless expansion, helps prioritize satisfaction and well-being over endless progress.
The Power of Saying No
Learning to say no to obligations rooted in guilt or fear. Aligning choices with personal values and being truthful allows for more authentic decisions, creating space for meaningful pursuits.
Authenticity Through Gratitude
Staying true to oneself means embracing change and finding joy in everyday moments. Practicing gratitude by reflecting on small, positive experiences fosters a deeper sense of authenticity and fulfillment.
