A Different Path
I do quite a bit of work in organizations, both directly and indirectly. I personally give keynote speeches and occasionally lead workshops. The company I founded, Box of Crayons, brings the power of curiosity and practical coaching skills to tens of thousands of people every year. And my books are read and used by organizations around the world. All very cool.
AND … I’m not blind to the relentless impact capitalism has had on the planet and its people. It’s been a force of destruction, even as it’s been a force of uplift.
This tension … am I for or against capitalism? I can’t escape it; I can’t bring about its downfall. So, what do I do? Just give up? Resign myself? Or make the most of my privileged position and get all I can, embracing pillage and plunder?
Well, it’s obviously not quite as black and white as I’m making it. I can try and change it, and I do think of my work as helping keep human-ness centered in the work that’s being done.
But there’s a way to take this on at a completely different level.
📕 My Guest: Raj Sisodia
Raj Sisodia is the FEMSA Distinguished University Professor of Conscious Enterprise at Tecnológico de Monterrey and the Co-Founder of Conscious Capitalism Inc.
He is the co-author of the New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestseller, Conscious Capitalism, which explores how businesses can create value for all stakeholders—customers, employees, society, and the environment—through purpose-driven leadership.
🎧 Awaken to Your Calling
Raj reads two pages from Gandhi: His Life and Message for the World by Louis Fischer.
In our conversation we discuss:
The Impact of Conscious Capitalism
Embracing the principles of Conscious Capitalism—focusing on a higher purpose beyond profit, caring for all stakeholders, and fostering a culture of trust—can enhance business performance while creating a positive impact on people, communities, and the planet.
The Power of Purpose-Driven Leadership
Purpose-driven leadership, where leaders are motivated by service to people and the organization’s mission, is essential for creating organizations that are not only successful but also respected and loved by all stakeholders.
The Value of an Outsider Perspective
Growing up in diverse cultural environments can provide a unique outsider perspective, allowing people to question established norms and explore more conscious approaches to business and life.
Embracing Wholeness in Leadership
Integrating both masculine and feminine energies in leadership—combining strength, courage, and resilience with compassion, love, and inclusivity—is crucial for creating a more balanced and humane approach to leadership.
The Role of Personal Healing in Leadership
Focusing on their own healing, leaders can become more effective in guiding and supporting others. Personal challenges can be transformed into sources of strength and wisdom, much like the art of Kintsugi, where broken pottery is repaired with gold to become stronger and more beautiful.
